Goodnight French toast

I hate waking up starving on Saturday mornings. I try to steal a couple of extra hours of sleep when I can, but the longer I sleep the hungrier I get..it’s like the longer you stay at Happy Hour the more you drink…and you will wake up regretting it..you get my point?

I wish I could wake up and go in the kitchen and breakfast would be waiting….I’ve always wished this my whole life and it has NEVER HAPPENED.

Years ago when browsing the internet, prior to the birth of Pinterest..I used the internet to find recipes….that sounds sooo weird now that Pinterest is a member of my family.

This recipe is a collaboration of several different recipes, mashed together and edited to my liking.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS SUPER SWEET, YUMMY AND ADDICTING and can feed a family of 8…or can feed my really greedy brother for like 2 days.

Stuff You’ll need:

  • 2 Packs of Kings Hawaiian rolls
  • 5-6 eggs
  • 1 cup of Milk, heavy whipping cream or half and half (I use any of it depending on what I need to use before it expires)
  • Cinnamon…few pinches just sprinkle it on
  • 2 teaspoons of Vanilla extract..I use the cheap stuff it doesn’t matter
  • 1 cup of Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of Clear Corn Syrup
  • One Stick of butter….NOT MARGARINE
  • Powdered sugar (optional)
  1. Spray a baking pan.. 13×9 size OR you can use one of those disposable pans in the baking section of the grocery store..I HATE WASHING GRIMY PANS so I keep these stockpiled..lazy I know…
  2. Rip the rolls into pieces and toss them in the sprayed baking pan(My 8-year-old does this)
  3. Sprinkle all of the bread real good with cinnamon
  4. In a large bowl mix the 5-6 eggs, vanilla and the milk or half and half
  5. Pour over the bread and mix it up and make sure no bread is dry…if it is ..use another 1/4 to 1/2 cup of milk and another egg so its soaky (I just made that word up)  but NOT FLOATING
  6. Cover the pan tightly with foil and place in the fridge for 6-8 hours..go to sleep..this is my favorite part…sleeping

WAKE UP AND CONTINUE

  1.  Preheat oven to 350-375..my oven GETS Back-Draft HOT so I always go lower
  2. Place the COVERED French toast in the oven for 20 minutes…
  3. While it’s baking melt the butter in a pot and add the brown sugar and corn syrup
  4. Let this mixture get bubbly DON’T LET IT BURN
  5. It should look like syrup or a hot magic potion
  6. Pull the French toast out of the oven, and pour the syrup over it and place it back in the oven covered
  7. Bake another 20 mins covered again with the foil
  8. Remove the foil and bake the last 5-10 mins uncovered..DON’T LET IT GET hard and burnt..Total cooking time should be about 45 minutes
  9. Remove from oven and let it sit for 5 minutes…
  10. Sprinkle it with powdered sugar if you want to make it look nice
  11. Serve it warm and refrigerate any leftovers in Tupperware…if you leave it in the baking dish it will get crusty and dry.

UPDATE*****

I had a freezer full of glazed donuts (Don’t judge me) and they needed to be repurposed so I used them for this recipe in place of the Kings Hawaiian and Low and BEHOLD my breakfast Remix was everything…like when Method Man and Mary J. remixed ” I’ll Be There For you”

I hope you enjoy it!
