Blue Box inspired 13th Birthday party

My daughter was turning 13 which was the biggest event ever according to her. She was in middle school and now she was becoming a mature child aka a teenager. I think she thought something magical was going to happen at midnight…but the magic was in the slumber party we had.

We came up with the idea to use the colors from my favorite “blue box” of jewelry. We starting collecting things that matched that pretty Tiffany blue.

We found a bowl and platter which I already had and figured since it was just going to be a small group of girls we just needed a few large pieces to give it the pop of color.

Treat tables or candy tables are my thing so we knew we needed a few things to make this happen:

  • Pretzel rods are easy and we dipped them in candle melts and drizzled them
  •  Jello flavored popcorn…we played around with a couple of colors and food coloring to get the teal blue we needed Link to the Jello Popcorn recipe
  • We ordered a dozen cupcakes from the bakery in teal and placed  them on small plates all over the table to fill it in
  • We ordered a small 8 inch blue, white and teal cake from the grocery store
  • I covered foam craft bricks with zebra print wrapping paper and stick candy in them(tape wood skewers on the candy bars to make them stand up..cut them down to size)
  • Used cake mix and food coloring to make mini sugar cookies of course they were teal blue too! Cake Mix cookies are easy and yummy!! Cake Mix Cookie recipe
  • Filled vases and glass bowls with candy and glow sticks since this was a evening slumber party

We love making banners so I printed up letters in black and write and she painted them with 50 cent craft paint in teal and made the banner. DIY banners are a great way to customize your party or event because you can buy some many prints, shades, and colors of scrapbook paper the possibilities are endless! We always have made our banners by hand up until a few months ago when I got a cricut machine, holy cow! This machine was a gift and boy was it life changing for me. It’s like when dvd’s came out and you didn’t have to rewind the movies in the vcr before you returned them to Blockbuster??!!

One of my closest friends made my daughter the huge pom poms and we hung them from the ceiling, I have no clue how she does it, but they came out fantastic!!

We even set up some props and made a photo booth area and the girls took selfies all night on their phones and used the camera on my laptop to print out some of the images.

It was a great party, it looked very fancy and super extra but it was simple and my daughter had a wonderful time.

She only invited a handful of friends and her 2 closest cousins, but this is what she wanted, small group of her peeps. Sometimes you only need a small group of people for an amazing time!

I’m not sure what she will do for her 16th Birthday, any ideas on fun 16th Birthday ideas please let me know!
